UK Bean Bag Chairs and Bean Bags Guide
The information below features suggestions on selecting UK bean bag
chairs for interiors such as a lounge or room. Bean bags can be used as
a feature due to their retro-futurist and minimal look. This guide also
details the comfort properties of these unique pieces of furniture.
Choosing the right style
Bean bag chairs come in many different colors, sizes and fabrics, the
first thing to do is consider the application you want from bean bags.
Who is going to use it? What room will it go in?. To give you an idea,
stronger, more resilient and easy maintenance bean bag chairs make a more
appropriate for children and teenagers – they would be suited to a playroom
or while watching a game of soccer. You could even pick a matching colour
to the UK team your family supports, for example red for the Manchester
United fan! Bean bag chairs make an ideal seat for playstation too. Size
should also be considered according to the dimensions of the room. Bean
bags sizes should be taken into consideration also, they are an ideal
piece of furniture for restricted spaces as they are easy to shift around
without taking too much room. A number of sizes are available, small,
medium, large, as well as huge double seaters. These bean bags are available
in children’s sizes, as well as sizes and styles to suit teenagers and
adults.
Choosing bean bag chairs colours and textures
Bright or black, slick or soft… bean bags are available in many colours
or textures. They can add a splash of colours to your living room or a
rumpus room. A relaxing earthy tone and a soft a warm surface can provide
your living space with a chilled out vibe which will feel like heaven
after a hard days work traveling in the tube, train or bus. When Richard
Branson opened his first Virgin record store in Oxford street in London,
he furnished the listening area with UK bean bag chairs, this was a new
approach at the time and bean bags were one of the many components which
gave him an edge against other music stores. Colours can certainly match
your existing lounge or curtains and it is an original and inexpensive
way to achieve a different look. Piping on bean bags is also another way
to use colour – the piping colour could be used to match or offset interior
trimmings. These bean bag chairs are available in a huge range of fabrics
including cotton drill, denim, tech nylon, fur, luxurious shaggy fur,
corduroy, extra padded, vinyl, suede, tech vinyl as well as Fil tec fabric
outdoor bean bags. The extensive colour range includes black, white, cream,
grey, navy, blue, red, yellow and green. The denim blue bean bags are
available with silver, red or yellow topstitch. The fur bean bags are
available in calf, giraffe, zebra, leopard, tiger, Dalmatian, watermelon
and ladybird prints.
How comfortable?
They are an excellent piece of furniture due to their polymorphic properties
as they tend to take the natural shape of the back and support it in the
right areas, this is especially achieved if you sit in them properly,
please read our paragraph below to work out the best way to sit. If you
need more support, we recommend that you overfill bean bags as they will
enable you to sit more upright if that is what you require.
The best way to sit in UK bean bag chairs
Often first time users do not actually know how to sit in bean bags although
they think they do, they usually throw themselves in thinking that they
will sink in, this does not always happen as the beanbag needs to expel
air and it can not go out all at once through the seams, it is not unlike
trying to sit on a kids balloon. Sitting correctly requires a consideration
of the position you require lounge out to watch a dvd or upright for a
bit more socialising. If you sit high you will achieve a more supported
and upright position while the lower you sit the more reclined you will
end up. A good seating position we fill is somewhere in the middle, not
too low so it is easy to get up and not too high because you are no longer
at the desk!
Cleaning
UK Bean bags are often subjected to a lot of use (and abuse), high users
(usually kids) often "plonk" themselves into them, this means
they can get dirty quickly in which case ease of maintenance should be
considered. Dry fabric such a Vinyl or PVC are very durable and cleaning
them is a breeze as they can simply be wiped clean with a bit of water
or a cleaning product such as soap or a detergent. Bean bag chairs in
denim, cotton drill or nylon can be machine washed, however one should
really consider getting a removable liner as emptying the beans is not
easy and time consuming. Think of a removable liner as a bladder which
contains the beans and can be removed out of the bag.
How to fill bean bag chairs
The best way to avoid spillage while filling bean bags is to do it with
someone else. One person can hold the bag open around the zip while the
other pours the beans. It is best to put the opening of the bag with beans
into the bean bag to further avoid spills. We recommend you fill the bag
indoors as the beans are very light and could fly around everywhere in
even light winds. A bean bag chair can sometimes be understuffed or overstuffed
– although this is rather subjective to one’s personal needs. Overfilling
them means that you won’t really be able to "UK" into them.
If they are underfilled, they tend to be not very comfortable as you will
not receive adequate support. We prefer to fill them about 15 cm above
the wide point of the bag for extra support.
What
are the beans made of? Bean bag chairs are usually filled with small expanded
polystyrene ‘beans’. We recommend that you go with the smallest one you can find
as they tend to compress. The smallest beans will minimize that effect. Also make
sure that they are fire retardant, most foam shops in the United Kingdom stock
them, you can look in your local trade directory under ‘Packaging Materials’
or ‘Foam Shops’ in order to source them. If you can not find fire retardant
beans (although we STRONGLY recommend that you do), please note that polystyrene
is a highly flammable product so keep away from fireplaces, heaters and burners
at all times.
How many beans are required?
Usually two third of the size is best as the beans tend to compress after
a while so a little bit more will mean that you will only have to top
it up later rather than sooner. At the end of the day, the amount of beans
you require in bean bags is really up to your preference, the more you
have the more upright position you can achieve, the less the more recline
you will end up.
